Where’s a good place to read a book alone? This is what I found on Reddit (Nov 13, 2024).
Oldfield’s Bar (Culver City)
Reddit says that this bar has a reading hour on Tuesday afternoons.
They serve classic cocktails. Reviews say they’re really good.
Alma’s (Virgil Village)
“They encourage reading with a drink”
idk what that means but sounds like a good place to bring a book.
Cider mostly, some beer
Stories Books & Cafe (Echo Park)
Apparently there’s a bar inside. I checked the website and they do serve beer and wine.
A few folks recommended
The Library Bar (Downtown)
cozy atmosphere with a literary theme, ideal spot for solo readers
The Wolves (Downtown)
an ornate interior with a relaxed ambiance
Bar Bandini (Echo Park)
Lots of people co-signed this. Heads up, they only serve natural wine.
Angel City Brewery (Arts District)
One person mentioned this.
Just a note: I’ve been here and it is a chill place to read (spacious, well-lit) and play video games. But when it gets crowded, it can get loud. Weekdays or early weekends would be top tier.
And the beer is super good.
4100 Bar (Silverlake)
One person mentioned this.
Just a note: I’ve been here and afternoon/early evening, the patio is a great place to read.
Gets busy and turns into a great neighborhood hang but maybe not a great reading spot
Drinks are super basic, there’s often a food truck outside (but the food isn’t always great)
They’re also dog-friendly!
Solarc Brewing (Glassell Park)
A couple of people co-signed this. It looks like a beer nerdy spot (check out their IG) they also have tea
The Hermosillo (Highland Park)
Two different people recommended it. One said they’ve seen people reading there on weekdays.
If you can second this emotion, let us know in the comments!
The Roger Room (WeHo)
a vintage vibe with cozy booths and a quiet atmosphere
The Dresden (Los Feliz)
classic lounge setting with live jazz music
Just a note: I’ve been here and I also think this is a good place to read
The Normandie Club (Koreatown)
a sophisticated setting with comfortable seating and a calm environment
Just a note: I’ve been here. It’s p dark inside and gets super crowded on the weekends. The outside patio might be a chill place to read and drink but it’s also where the smokers go.
The Thirsty Crow (Silverlake)
this bar offers a relaxed environment with dim lighting and a wide selection of whiskeys
The Black Cat (Silverlake)
laid-back atmosphere with ample seating
The Wellesbourne (West LA)
“a lounge that will transport you to a world of 19th Century English styling, understated elegance and charming home-like comforts.”
classic English library setting, complete with comfortable seating and a quiet ambiance.
